Why You Need To Market Your Business Outside Social Media

I’m sure we can agree that marketing ourselves and our businesses is essential. The thing is, I don’t know about you, but I find social media can often feel overwhelming and time-consuming?

We’re constantly bombarded by people telling us we need to do xyz new ‘things’ on Instagram or post five times a week on Facebook. It’s all a bit exhausting isn’t it?

The good news is, we don’t need rely solely on social media to market ourselves. If you’re not quite convinced, these are my 5 reasons you need to market your business outside social media:

You’re in Control

Social media platforms can be unpredictable, and changes to algorithms or policies can impact your reach and engagement. Not only that but I’m sure we all know of at least one person who has completely lost their Instagram account or had it hacked. When it comes to your social accounts, you have no control over whether they are removed. If you’re not marketing yourself anywhere else, what would happen to your business?

Reach a Different Audience

One benefit of marketing your business outside of social media is the ability to reach a different audience. While social media is great for connecting with a wide audience, there are still lots of people who don’t use it or engage with it.

By exploring other marketing channels, you can reach new and different audiences through other channels like email marketing, events, and networking.

Be Seen

Social media is incredibly crowded and noisy. It can be difficult to capture the attention of your potential customers. Especially when you’re trying to interrupt people whilst they’re scrolling. Being seen seems to get increasingly harder on social media. Plus, keeping up with all the recommendations is exhausting isn’t it?

Develop Deeper Connections

By using other marketing channels, such as in-person events or networking, you can develop deeper connections with your audience and build trust with potential customers. When you meet someone face to face you’re much more likely to build a connection and remember them. You’re also more likely to recommend them to others, even if you don’t need their services/products yourself.

Waste Less Time

Social media might seem like the easiest, cheapest way to promote your business but have you thought about how much time it’s costing you?

Do you tell yourself you’re just ‘researching’, whilst spending hours and hours scrolling on Instagram? What else could you do with that time? If you spend 1 hour a day on Instagram (let’s be honest, most of us spend 2+ hours a day), that’s 7 hours a week we’re spending just on one app. What could you do if you gained another 7 hours back into your working week?

There are lots of ways you can promote your business, which don’t involve losing hours of your life to your mobile phone.

TLDR:

While social media is a great free marketing tool, it’s not the only way to reach potential customers or clients. In fact, relying solely on social media can be limiting and you may not be reaching your desired audience or being seen at all.

By marketing yourself outside of social media, you can tap into other channels that may be more effective and allow you to build deeper connections with your audience.

If you’re feeling burnt out on social media, don’t be afraid to explore other marketing channels. You may just find they’re a better fit for you and your business!
